About Food Waste Recycling Solution

Reducing food loss, now a globally recognized issue, and promoting food recycling.
These recycling issues have been solved by Local Food Waste Recycling Solutions, an initiative of NTT BUSINESS SOLUTIONS.
We produce compost from food waste using IoT and other information technologies, and offer it to farmers to help them grow vegetables, thereby creating a recycling-oriented community.

Solution overview

Install the food waste fermentation/decomposition machine for wholesalers and food-related companies. Decompose the food waste into fermentation/decomposition beds(primary fermented product). The fermentation/decomposition beds are transported to the recycling center. The fermentation/decomposition beds turned into fully mature compost through secondary and tertiary fermentation at the recycling center. The compost is supplied to contracted farmers, agricultural cooperatives and agricultural corporations.

  • Large volumes of food waste from vegetables are generated each day by food wholesalers and retailers. Until now, businesses have been responsible for the cost of disposing of this waste.

  • Vegetables and other food waste are fed into the food waste fermentation/decomposition machine. This makes it possible to reduce food waste bulk and the cost of waste disposal.

  • The food waste ferments in about 24 hours thanks to the power of microbes. Moisture and temperature are maintained at optimum levels, producing a fermentation/decomposition bed (primary fermented product).

  • The collected primary fermented product is directly provided to agricultural producers and brought to a recycling center for secondary and tertiary fermentation.

  • The primary fermented product is turned into fully mature compost through secondary and tertiary fermentation at the recycling center, then recycled and stocked.

  • The primary fermented product and the compost created at the recycling center are provided to agricultural producers where they are used in the production of safe, healthy vegetables.

  • Vegetables produced by farmers are delivered to food-related businesses and go back on store shelves. It is possible to promote a food recycling loop for perishable foods in the local community.

  • We offer service more effectively with information technologies from the NTT Group's IoT devices connected to the cloud and provide an optimal food-recycling environment.

  • By using smartphones and tablets, food waste volume, fermentation conditions, and more can be known in real time over the Internet.
